Rain World is a 2017 simulation ecosystem survival platform game developed by Videocult, published by Adult Swim Games in March 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows, and released on the Nintendo Switch platform in late 2018. In 2018, Rain World released January 13, 2018, Videocult and adult swimming game on the Nintendo Switch platform in December.
Rain World puts you in the role of a slug-like spaghetti-like mammal seeking to explore and survive in a peaceful post-apocalyptic wasteland. Rain World tells the story of an unusual snail cat who is separated from his family and must learn to survive alone in a vast and often catacomb-like world – survival is the word. The key is there. Like many of the best survival games, Rain World is fun to break down barriers that separate predators from prey.

Rain World was nominated for “Best Platformer” at the PC Gamers 2017 Game of the Year Awards , as well as “Best Platformer”, “Best Art Direction” and “Most Innovative” at the IGN Awards for Best of 2017 . The graphics, story, music and atmosphere are some of the best I’ve ever seen in a game. Rain World offers a vast and mysterious world that feels real, yet filled with cleverly designed “playable” features to develop your character’s sense of mastery and connection to the environment.
These things that I mentioned take the game to a higher level than just a platformer; this is an experience. The goal of the game is to explore the world, and not expand your capabilities by finding goodies, as in the usual metroidvania. The world is a huge collection of screens and environments, each with specific threats and obstacles.
Having to repeat these areas doesn’t feel like an exercise in hardcore gaming, it’s just a chore. This can definitely be frustrating, as finding new areas and creatures is one of the best times in Rain World.
The player can view the map to check the progress of the players in the abandoned and hostile world. Rain Worlds’ environments also tend to be rendered in a very narrow and simplistic palette, making it fairly easy to distinguish snail cats, their prey, and their predators from their surroundings. Slugcat’s movements are both clumsy and agile, and I found them quite exciting when watching them in gif form during the development of Rain World.
If you’re looking for a game that will really test your patience and give you a serious challenge, I definitely recommend adding Rain World to your library. Exploration, adventure, and experimentation all pay off, and there are many fun and exciting interactions with the world’s many creatures.
